Just because your washing machine cost more and is supposed to be of a higher standard, it should be even more trouble free, RIGHT?
WRONG
Common problems (click below):
This is the #1 reason that we do calls on front load washers. People are not checking their pockets, and items get caught in the pump screen/pump. This causes a slow or no drain error.
LG, GE, and Samsung have front access doors at the bottom left front of the unit for customers to check and/or clean it out.
Whirlpool units have to have the front lower panel taken off to access the pump clean-out. There are 3 screws across the bottom to remove the panel. These are either torx head or 1/4 hex head.
Frigidaire - Some Frigidaire just have the bottom panel, like the Whirlpool, but with phillips head screws ( Skip to 2nd paragraph below). Other Frigidaire units have to be taken apart totally different. The other models will have to be taken apart as follows:
Thake the top panel off by screws across the back. Slide top panel to rear to remove. Take control panel off. All visible screws on top inside and behind the soap drawer. Release tabs across the top and wiggle like hell. The door gasket- there is a spring and wire athe bottom front of the gasket, release this to unmount the gasket from the front panel. Un screw the door switch. The front panel- take out the loosen the top 2 screws, and take out the bottom 4 screws.
You will find that the Frigidaire doesn't have a clean-out, but just a hose from tub to pump. Take off clamps and clean it out.
You can always call us to show you how to check and/or clean out these units. We will show you how so you can do it yourself when needed.
This is the second most frequent call on the front load units. People are overloading the units with clothes that don't balance well. Or they are just shoving in just way too much clothes.
How do you know if you have a blown bearing or basket support?
It will sound like a freight train. The outer tub and the inner basket should wiggle around together. If you can wiggle the inner basket without seeing the outer tub move AND it sounds like a freight train during spin, you have a very expensive repair or new purchase comming.
What we tell customers about loading....
IF the unit starts to bang around during the spin cycle, adjust you load size, or select a slower spin speed.
This damage isn't worth fixing. Tubs bearing are maching press into the back of the outer tub. It usually cost between $300 to $500 for the part. The inner basket support/pulley shaft is sold as a complete part with the inner basket. It cost $300 to $450. The labor is intensive and could cost up to $200. Tax and all $650 to $850.
New units are going for that same price and you will have a full warranty on the whole unit, to boot.
Don't leave clothes in washer, for long, after the cycle if finished.
Leave door open (cracked) when the unit isn't in operation.
Run unit through clean cycle, once a month. Or use cleaning tablets and follow direction on packaging.
Clean pump clean-out often. Atleast once a year.
Clean the door gasket bottom at the front of the unit.
